DAY 8 and I'm in the YELLOW
Butte Montana to Bozeman Montana. Today's distance was 101 miles, with a climb of 4,052 and average speed of 17.0. The elevation of bozeman is 4800 feet. This place is so gorgeous, this picture does not even begin to do it justice. This is the way to travel, you just cant see stuff like this from an airplane.
Got a full 7 hours of sleep last night so felt strong today or maybe I'm just getting used to the pain. In this kind of event you have to monitor your body and mind all the time and adjust to the conditions. There will be ups and downs. just deal with it.
two major climbs today 1st climb 5 miles (5-8%grade) and 2nd climb 3 miles (6% grade) . I'm glad I did a lot of climbing this year in training. Much to the chagrin of my wife and daughters, I'm also getting pretty good at taking pictures while riding. This one was taken at 30 mphs. It was HOT today. This afternoon we biked along Madison river for 20 miles; there were a lot of rafters and it looked so cool and tempting! As we were coming into Bozeman a group of 6 of us formed a pace line into town with a sprint finish... with about 200 yards to go i sprinted in and am in the Yellow right now -- not too bad for an old guy. Tomorrow off to Columbus......
ps. for those who might not know: " in the yellow" refers to the leader of the tour de france who wins the yellow jersey. (Yes, this is bike geek humor at its best).
